The star has donated the full amount of his £25k honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to save the UK's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his latest record the album was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have shut down – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported venues that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from shows in big venues backs the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

In recent years, the band contributed their funds to the local youth club that developed their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners they contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the MVT announced it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in that location were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by a national body and enthusiasts who buy "shares" in the venues.
