Nearly twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, generating powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Residents observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that various areas across Queensland had been affected by significant hail.

Utility workers were working to restore power throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Weather Woes

At the same time, around one thousand energy customers in the southern state also faced electricity disruptions after Melbourne recorded its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 requests for assistance across the region, mostly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At one point on Sunday, more than 28k power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was expected to become the most rainy day, with continued severe weather risk expected across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Medical authorities alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
